With the No. 23 pick in the 2025 MLS SuperDraft, Toronto FC selected Reid Fisher, a defender out of San Diego State.

The 6-foot-3 sophomore became a crucial piece of the Aztecs' backline from the jump after redshirting in 2022. He started all 18 games he played during his freshman year and did the same for all 17 games he played in 2024. Fisher was named to the All-WAC First Team after leading SDSU to the best shutout, goals allowed and shots on goal per game averages in the conference. He led the team in minutes in both of his seasons at the school.

Fisher was the second-highest draft pick in school history, behind only CJ Fodrey's No. 13 selection via Austin FC in 2022. He became the third Aztec picked in the draft in as many years from a rising team that finished with a 10-5-3 record last season.

"It means a lot," Fisher said of being the second-highest pick in school history. "Being able to play for SDSU has been a dream come true. Representing my school in this way means a lot because it shows we are growing as a program and helping leave this program better than I found it has been an ultimate goal of mine."

Fisher is a journalism major that aspires to be a soccer announcer after his own blossoming career on the pitch. If tasked with writing a feature story about his own soccer journey, he would focus on the grit and grind.

"I would write about how my whole life I have been an underdog type of guy," Fisher said. "[I] have always been someone who does the dirty work to get where I am today.

SDSU head coach Ryan Hopkins describes Fisher as a player with a high motor and a competitive spirit. He's a player that will do whatever it takes to help his team and will play any position he's asked to.

The Huntington Beach, Calif., native starred at Huntington Beach High School and made the all-conference team three times. He also played for ECNL side Slammers FC, where he was a team captain and earned an ECNL Player of the Month award in 2019. Additionally, he kicked for his school's football team.

TFC is getting a player that has experience as a leader and is still a very young talent. Fisher is a defender that never shies away from a tackle. He showcased his defensive prowess during a stint with USL2's Vermont Green FC. He also has the ability to knock well-weighted balls over the top.

"I would say my strongest aspects are being a leader, being gritty and competitive, aerial duels and being able to take pride in winning my duels and keeping clean sheets," Fisher said.
