With the No. 10 pick in the 2025 MLS SuperDraft, DC United selected Hakim Karamoko, a winger out of NC State.
Karamoko made the All-ACC Second Team after scoring seven goals and assisting two in 2024. He was the first ACC player off the board in the draft. In 2023, he was a member of the ACC All-Freshman team as well. Karamoko was the first Wolfpack recipient of the honor since 2017.
"During my freshman year, I learned some valuable lessons," Karamoko said. "First, the demands of being a student-athlete can lead to burnout, so managing your energy is essential. Second, prioritizing your physical health is non-negotiable. Lastly, as a collegiate athlete, I discovered the importance of balancing three key areas: athletics, academics, and social life. Maintaining balance among these buckets is crucial for success both on and off the field."
The New York City native grew up in the competitive soccer nature of the area. NYC holds people from nearly every walk of life, creating a diverse culture surrounding the sport. Karamoko played for Manhattan Soccer Club, the largest club in the entire city.
"The city’s abundance of talent played a significant role in shaping me into the player I am today," Karamoko said. "Alongside team training, dedicating time to individual practice, maintaining a strong drive to achieve my goals and seeking guidance from professionals in the soccer industry have all been key to my development."
Karamoko is a crafty winger that will take a mile given an inch. He prefers low, driven finishes into the corners of the net. He likes to work down the touchline and operates smoothly in tight encounters. He is best on his left foot but has the ability to use both. Karamoko loves to combine and is a pure chance creator, always looking to pick out his teammates with an innate sense of calmness.
"I’m a dynamic, strong and powerful player who always gives everything for the badge I wear," Karamoko said. "I want DC fans to know that I’ll give my all, pushing myself to the best of my abilities to support the team in every way I can."
