Sergio Busquets is one of the greatest readers of the game in the history of the sport. He simply has a sixth sense when it comes to picking out a pass or having eyes in the back of his head to break through pressure. Even at the ripe age of 36, Busquets is using these abilities to control the midfield of the Supporters' Shield champions.
The brilliance of Busquets is truly something you can only experience while watching a full 90-minute match. The advanced stats back it up, but it still does not tell the full story. Highlight wise, he scored one goal on the year, a fabulous flicked header at the near post. An unfathomable splitting ball to Lionel Messi served as the match-winner in New England. He clipped a ball over the top for a late Leo Campana winner in May. Busquets finished the campaign with eight assists.
Busquets ended up playing double-digit games at center back due to injuries. He was not as good in the back, but that is to be expeceted outside of his natural position. He was one of the most effective players on the ball during the 2024 MLS season. Busquets won over 60% of his duels as well. The game works through him when he's on the pitch. Busquets comes in at No. 68.
