Josef Martinez is now 31 years of age and has played eight Major League Soccer seasons, but he's still scoring goals and finding a way to contribute in a big way. Obviously he will never replicate the nearly 80 goals he scored in his first three seasons for Atlanta United, but he's not just some washed player floating around the league. He played one season with CF Montreal and scored 14 total goals, the most he has put away since those prime Atlanta years.
Martinez showed up big time when the games mattered most, but he did get on the board in his first game playing at least a full half, scoring a match-winner in Dallas. Martinez played a lot of minutes in a sub role, making his numbers even more impressive. He scored a brace in a 34-minute cameo off the bench against RBNY. A fabulous header and a first-time finish earned him a brace against San Jose as well. In the very next game, he terrorized his former team and singlehandedly beat them with two goals. Just three weeks later, he put another two goals past Atlanta in his final game with Montreal.
In the final six matches of his CF Montreal career, Martinez amassed eight goals. He averaged a goal every 52 minutes during the stretch. This wild run is truly what gets him a spot on the list. It also serves as a reminder of who he is and the ability he still has, to any team that may look to secure his services ahead of 2025. One of the best scorers in the history of the league still has some gas left in the tank and the way he closed the campaign should be given its fair attention. Martinez comes in at No. 66.
