Amine Bassi played the role of creator on one of the most surprising teams of 2024. The Dynamo finished fifth in the West despite not really having a star player, especially in the attack. Bassi assisted eight goals and had the ball at his feet throughout the entire season. He did a lot with a little and completed a successful campaign. He would have hoped for a higher goal output with the chances he had to score, though Houston's attack would have been entirely lost without his passing brilliance during his 33 appearances.

"I have a vision and my [teammates] know me and it's easier after [two] years," Bassi said of his ability to pick out passes.

Bassi opened his account with a lovely first-time goal against Dallas. He did the same two matches later in a victory over the Rapids. He orchestrated the winner in a commanding 4-1 over DC, a game in which Sebastian Ferreira scored a hat trick that accounts for almost his entire 2024 tally. A massive result against Real Salt Lake was kickstarted by a lovely Bassi volley. In the end, the Dynamo fell in back-to-back penalty kick shootouts and lost to the Seattle Sounders in the playoffs. It was a rough way to go out.

"The best lesson [of 2024] is Houston [has the] capacity to win every game, but some mistakes that you can't control sometimes happen," Bassi said of the way the Dynamo's 2024 season ended.

Bassi will look to lead the Dynamo to another positive season in 2025. Ben Olsen has been a quality hire for the club and has an Open Cup title to show for it. Houston could really use a few more pieces in the forward positions, though. Bassi's numbers would undoubtedly see a major uptick if the front office went out and spent money on capable goal scorers and wingers. Hector Herrera's departure also opens up a DP slot that was being used on an aging player. Bassi completes 53 passes per match and crosses with incredible 40% accuracy. He touches the ball 76 times a game, a testament to his importance to the team, and creates almost three chances per 90. Bassi comes in at No. 59.
