Eduard Lowen terrorized MLS in St. Louis' inaugural season in 2023, scoring six goals alongside an incredible 14 assists. He was at the forefront of the club's magical first season. In 2024, he fought through injuries and played less games, though still showed his pure quality in the center of midfield. Lowen still made an impact on each game he played in, finishing with five goals and four assists. He is a chance creating maestro while playing at the No. 8, a skill that few box-to-box midfielders in the league have at his level.
Lowen opened his account on the season with a penalty goal in Austin. He came alive as the summer months began, scoring goals in back-to-back games. In a 2-0 victory over San Jose, he found a pocket of space and did not hit the ball exactly how he planned, though it ended up in the back of the net. He starred in a 3-1 Leagues Cup win over Portland Timbers, assisting two goals, including an incredible clipped ball to Marcel Hartel. Lowen finished the season out with a capper in the brand-new derby against Sporting Kansas City.
Lowen's attacking stats from his role as a pivot midfielder are some of the best in MLS. He averaged 0.26 xG per match and 0.29 xA per match, both at the 96th percentile at his position. He creates for others and is not afraid to take on a shot on his own accord. He averages 83 touches per 90, a sign that the game works through him. He creates over two chances per 90 and connects on 1.3 crosses. Defensively, he wins tackles and does not shy away from the opposition's shots, as he blocks 0.82 shots per 90 as well. Lowen comes in at No. 52.
