Federico Bernardeschi was one of the few bright spots for a struggling Toronto FC in 2024. He has been much more impactful than his Italian counterpart in Lorenzo Insigne since the pair met up in The Six. Bernardeschi scored and assisted eight goals each on the year, but his impact went much further than the scoresheet. He was the guy who TFC looked to get on the ball every time it entered the attacking third. Toronto found abolutely zero consistency otherwise going forward, outside of a good start to the season for Prince Owusu. Bernardeschi played a multitude of different roles and did whatever his manager asked of him, even covering the wingback position at times.

The opening stretch of the season was certainly not one to remember for Toronto's No. 10, but he turned it up in a big way as he entered the month of May. He scored a brace against FC Dallas, with the match-winner being one of his signature left-footed curlers that nestled into the top left corner. Two weeks later, he terrorized CF Montreal with a hat trick in the Canadian Classique, capped off with another left-footed strike into the upper 90. He cut in on his favorite foot, as he does so often, in a June contest against Atlanta. Bernardeschi whipped in a corner kick to assist the lone goal in a victory over Houston Dynamo.

The season was far from perfect for Toronto's catalyst, as emotions did get the best of him a few times. In fact, he was the only player in Major League Soccer to be shown three red cards. That is absolutely an issue, though it's understandable for him to be frustrated with the lack of help on the roster. Berna truly does care, which is proved by his social media posts voicing his concerns and speaking to the fans from the heart. He took on 98 shots this season, for an average of 3.58 per 90. He creates 2.23 chances per 90 and successfully completes over three dribbles down the right flank. Additionally, he hits on over 70% of his long balls. Toronto has not been active in the transfer market yet, but if they can get Bernardeschi some assistance up top, the attack could come too life in 2025. Bernardeschi comes in at No. 48.
