Jack McGlynn truly had his breakout year in 2024. He has been a regular contributor for the Union for four seasons now, but no campaign comes close to what he accomplished this season. His role in the midfield was so important and oftentimes carried Philadelphia through its rough times. The Union had an uncharacteristic 12th place finish in the East and seem to be continuously spiraling. They will need to find a way to replicate the success of past with their blossoming star in McGlynn.
McGlynn has an absolute rocket in that left boot of his and he showed it off with a laced strike against Seattle. A few days later, he did it again, but even better. He took on a shot from Narnia and watched as it curled outwards and into the top left corner. He also assisted seven goals on the season and sprinkled the helpers out throughout the season. In the penultimate game of the campaign, he subbed on for a cameo in Columbus and left his mark with another deep left-footed goal.
Outside of the stat sheet contributons, McGlynn is an elite passer. He connected on 5.92 long balls per 90, which is simply incredible. He created over two chances a game and hit on an average of at least one cross as well. He clearly never shies away from a long-distance attempt, shooting around two shots per 90. On top of all of that, he blocks 0.7 shots a match and wins just under 58% of his duels. The Union will bring essentially the same team with them to 2025, which in some ways is not ideal, though having McGlynn very much is. McGlynn comes in at No. 42.
