Brian White has come alive in the past two seasons. He has scored 36 goals since 2023, which is more than he scored in the rest of his MLS seasons since joining in 2018. White is now 28 years of age but is very much finding his own, with even more potential present, according to the stats. He is a very streaky striker and that was very much the case in 2024, he goes on runs of incredible scoring form but also can go cold. Vancouver finished eighth in the West last season, a lower ranking than they would have liked and seemed poised for early on.
White opened his account with a header in a 3-1 victory over FC Dallas. He proceeded to score or assist in the five games following. The early season run came to a halt after a wild backheel flick against his former employer in the New York Red Bulls. After a long dry spell, he came back to life with a hat trick against St. Louis City in June. He scored the opening three Whitecaps goals in the 4-3 win. This opened another scoring streak, which was capped off by his fourth and fifth goals against STL in a two-week span. He hit one last streak late in the season. In the playoffs, he scored during the 5-0 thrashing of Portland, before Vancouver went out to LAFC.
The Whitecaps' No. 9 has now put 16 balls into the back of the net in two consecutive MLS seasons. The attack is sorted with his scoring ability and Ryan Gauld's playmaking ability. Vancouver has not been too active in the transfer window, but they will add Anderson Duarte from Toluca on the wing. White's side remains one to watch in 2025 as a team that can make a serious run. Despite his scoring success, he has fallen victim to quite a few bad misses. He ranked fourth in MLS with 19 big chances missed, so things could get even better if he puts some of those away in 2025. White comes in at No. 41.
