Robin Lod tore his meniscus in 2023 and left the season with nearly nothing to his name. One year later, he posted the best campaign of his entire career. In his first five seasons in Minnesota, Lod assisted 14 goals. In 2024 alone, he passed out 15 helpers and tripled his previous single-season record. He added a healthy seven goals in MLS competition. These marks earned him runner-up honors in the Comeback Player of the Year voting. His performance helped the Loons earn the No. 6 spot in the Western Conference and complete a fairly successful season with all things considered.
The Finnish midfielder was genuinely unstoppable at the season's outset. He scored on opening day against Austin, assisted a goal in the next match and helped ice LAFC 2-0 after that. After a quick runout with Finland, he returned to MLS play and assisted goals in four conescutive matches. He scored the eventual winner over Sporting Kansas City in June. Lod also scored in his lone Leagues Cup appearance against Necaxa. He assisted both goals in a 2-0 road win over SKC. He capped the season with a tally in a 4-1 victory against St. Louis. Minnesota squeaked past Real Salt Lake in penalties in the playoffs before getting bounced by the champions in LA Galaxy.
Lod's seven goals from the center of midfield came out to 0.24 goals per 90. He played a brand-new creator role in 2024 that was never really his game earlier on in his career. Most of his success came in the first half of the campaign, though it was still a complete showing from the 31-year-old. He created 1.78 chances per 90 and completed 1.4 successful dribbles a match as well. Lod is by no means a young player anymore, though if he can bring similar form into 2025, Minnesota can have another solid year. He always had clear talent and was a national team player, but his performances last season were on a whole different level. Lod comes in at No. 24.
