Facundo Torres is off to Palmeiras after scoring the most goals in Orlando City's brief history. He joined the Brazilian side $7.5m fee following another fabulous campaign in MLS. He scored 14 goals in 2024 alongside his six assists. It was his highest production year as far as goal contributions go among his three seasons donning the purple. Orlando finished fourth in the East with 15 wins. The attack scored 59 goals, third-most in the conference. The postseason run consisted of victories over Charlotte FC and Atlanta United, who were red hot. In the Eastern Conference Final, Orlando failed to score and home and fell just short of MLS Cup against the New York Red Bulls.
The Uruguayan winger opened his season with a 3-0 victory over Cavalry in CONCACAF Champions Cup play. He came alive in the warmer months, scoring and assisting in a 2-2 draw with Charlotte FC. In the following game against Chicago Fire, a Torres brace contributed to a 4-2 victory in that one. He dropped another double on the road in New England en route to a 3-1 win. It was yet another brace during a dominant 3-0 showing over Nashville. In the six-game stretch as Autumn began, he scored as many goals. The 24-year-old notched goals in two of the three matches versus Charlotte in the first round of the playoffs. He left for Palmeiras in January and has already opened his account for the club.
Torres was not only a prolific scorer with his wand of a left foot, but he also constantly picked out passes with it. He completed just under 40 passes per 90 and at 86.2% accuracy. He scored 0.44 goals per 90 in 2024. Whenever he cut in onto his left foot from his position on the flank, it was danger for defenders. He has the ability to curl shots precisely into bottom corners from distance and can make a deceptive pass as well. He was linked with a move away, with rumored heights as high as the Premier League, but for now he settled back into his home continent. He will always be one of Orlando's most influential and most important players in the early years of the franchise. Torres comes in at No. 18.
