Mateusz Bogusz was transferred to Cruz Azul for a fee over $10m after an incredible 2024 season with LAFC. After a solid 2023 that didn't jump off the page, he became unstoppable. He played all sorts of positions in and around the attack and midfield throughout the season. He finished with 15 goals and seven assists, excelling regardless of where he played. These numbers warranted the eight-digit price tag for his departure to Mexico. His lack of numbers with Leeds and Ibiza made the signing a big question mark, but there is no question now that the talent was always there.

The Pole showed off his goal-scoring intentions just 55 minutes into the fresh campaign. He dropped a brace against Portland in a 2-2 draw in which he scored the equalizer. He notched the lone goal in a 1-0 victory over Atlanta United, a dramatic match including two red cards. This game kickstarted an impressive run. He contributed to a goal in nine straight matches across all competitions. Bogusz scored twice and assisted once in a 6-2 beatdown of San Jose, directly followed by a hat trick against the Colorado Rapids. He scored in El Trafico, though LAFC fell 4-2. The first-place finish in the West led them to play Vancouver in the playoffs, where Bogusz scored the goal that sent the Whitecaps home. The Seattle Sounders ended the postseason run, despite an assist from the 23-year-old.

Bogusz has already began his season with his new club and registered two assists in a 5-0 CONCACAF Champions Cup win. He is picking up right where he left off in Major League Soccer, as an elite attacking player. In 2024, he ranked atop the league at his position with 2.31 chances created per 90. He also whipped in 1.62 successful crosses. He lobbed over one accurate long ball per 90 as well. He spent a lot of time on the ball with over 50 touches a game and was an effective passer and dribbler on top of all his other standout statistics. He graced MLS in 2024 and fans will still see him plenty in continental tournaments. Bogusz comes in at No. 11.
