Now three weeks in, MLS is starting to take shape a bit. It's still far too early to make any sure observations, but trends are certainly starting to form, those though could change abruptly. In this league, pretty much anything is possible, except for the New England Revolution scoring a goal. The Week 3 Power Rankings:
1. INTER MIAMI CF (-) | 1-0 W CLT

Last week it was Telasco Segovia, this time it's Tadeo Allende, this Inter Miami team keeps stocking up on young talent. Lionel Messi is getting a whole lot of load management, and it has not mattered. Luis Suarez is still playing at a high level, somehow. The ability to win a game with 10 men for the majority of the match cannot be understated. Miami is the clear top team in the league at this point as it attempts to repeat the Supporters' Shield-winning season from a year ago.
2. SEATTLE SOUNDERS (+6) | 5-2 W LAFC

The Seattle Sounders responded in a big way, playing LAFC off the field in the second half. Albert Rusnak was absolutely dominant, but everyone got involved. Kalani Kossa-Rienzi had himself an incredible match, while Paul Rothrock scored a stunner. If Seattle's depth can continue performing like this, and not the way they did in the RSL loss, this team is the best the West can offer. Jordan Morris also put himself into the history books as the club's top scorer.
3. COLUMBUS CREW (-) | 0-0 D HOU

Columbus Crew did not offer a whole lot in a scoreless draw with Houston. The usual attacking suspects had nearly nothing to say, it was a true defensive effort. Malte Amundsen played a fantastic game, but outside of him, there truly was not much going on. The Crew earned a point and will move onto a CCC matchup with LAFC midweek.
4. FC CINCINNATI (+1) | 2-0 W TFC

FC Cincinnati got back in the win column against the worst team in MLS, and it took a while to get on the board. Luca Orellano returned to the lineup, which is a huge help. Yuya Kubo had himself a game as well. The midfield was dominant, as is the case for every Toronto FC opponent. It was a solid three points that allows Cincy to turn its attention to a trip to Mexico, where an away goal against Tigres is required.
5. LAFC (-3) | 5-2 L SEA

LAFC did not have its best day at Lumen Field. Olivier Giroud may never score a goal in MLS. However, it was an extremely rotated eleven and it's hard to take too much from this loss. The five goals conceded did come against some of the starting defenders, so that is not ideal, but this loss is not at all indicative of what this team can do. David Martinez is proving to be one of the best young talents in MLS, he will battle for minutes with Cengiz Under, who just arrived.
6. ATLANTA UNITED (-) | 0-0 D RBNY

Things haven't looked so smooth for Atlanta United since the attacking domination in game one. For whatever reason, Ronny Deila keeps subbing Emmanuel Latte Lath out of games when Atlanta needs a goal. He probably should have scored in the first half, but Carlos Coronel said no. Alexey Miranchuk was more creative in this one, but Atlanta could not break the duct and have gone completely cold in attack, despite the big signings. A home tie with Inter Miami looms.
7. NEW YORK RED BULLS (-) | 0-0 D RBNY

The New York Red Bulls did not register a shot on goal in the scoreless draw in Atlanta, but that result will do. A 16-year-old in Julian Hall got the start, while many other second-choice players entered the fold with RBNY's ridiculous injury list. The Red Bulls badly need to figure out the injury situation because it's far too early to be dealing with such a large amount of knocks.
8. CHARLOTTE FC (-4) | 1-0 L MIA

Charlotte FC did not impress in a loss against Inter Miami, considering it played a man-up for so much of the game. Wilfried Zaha dramatically drew a red card on what was deemed a DOGSO, but his side was unable to take advantage at all. In fact, they conceded a goal and lost the game. Patrick Agyemang should have scored a goal, but his chances went begging. Charlotte has had a horribly rough schedule to start, so things will get much easier for what is a very solid team.
9. MINNESOTA UNITED (-) | 1-0 W SJ

Minnesota United is one of the most underrated clubs in the league at this point. The defensive structure is working exactly how it should, and it has paid dividends. The next step is scoring more goals and being clinical on chances. Kelvin Yeboah genuinely has a shout for the Golden Boot if he can put some more shots away, he takes a high volume of attempts on target. The five-back and the domination in the midfield has kept Minny perfectly balanced across the squad.
10. PHILADELPHIA UNION (+4) | 2-0 W NE

The Philadelphia Union has two budding stars in Jovan Lukic and Olwethu Makhanya. Lukic scored a beauty of a goal against New England and has helped fill the hole in the midfield. Makhanya has been so good at center back, and he's trying to keep his spot in the lineup from Ian Glavinovich when he returns. Tai Baribo thought he added a sixth goal, though it went down as an own goal. Everything has been good for Philly, as Daniel Gazdag and Kai Wagner continue to create chances at a rapid rate.
11. VANCOUVER WHITECAPS (+6) | 2-0 W MTL

The Vancouver Whitecaps have been the pleasant surprise of 2025, and will have a say in the Western Conference down the stretch. The issue is that Ryan Gauld went down with an injury that does not at all look good. It's hard not to think the worst, but if he's out long-term, the Whitecaps automatically get worse. With that being said, Pedro Vite has played at a high level and can help offset that. The 'Caps are off to an unreal start and will have a crack at Monterrey midweek, but they need to score a goal down in Mexico.
12. COLORADO RAPIDS (-) | 1-0 ATX

The Colorado Rapids have had quite the interesting start to the season. Djordje Mihailovic is playing fantastic football, while Rafael Navarro got on the board for the winner. Zack Steffen is back to keeping shots out of his net. Cole Bassett has really not been good so far, while Kevin Cabral is simply not an effective player in this league, which has been known for some time. Joshua Atencio showed well, but Colorado needs more across the board to keep winning games.
13. NYCFC (+7) | 2-1 W ORL

NYCFC picked up an important three points against Orlando. Alonso Martinez pushed one home to get himself going, while Hannes Wolf registered the winner. Kevin O'Toole was sent off late, but NYCFC was able to hold on regardless. Jonathan Shore, 17, put in a shift in the center of midfield, winning six tackles and seven duels. Maxi Moralez is still quick and thriving at the age of 38. Next up is another winnable match against New England.
14. ORLANDO CITY SC (-4) | 2-1 L NYC

Orlando City has now conceded two goals in all three matches, it's just not good enough on the defensive end. Robin Jansson came back, but the problem still was not solved. Cesar Araujo has been playing well in the midfield, but there has not been a ton of consistency otherwise. Martin Ojeda had a rough game, and Orlando has still not figured out who to play at striker between the three options it has. Oscar Pareja has to make some decisions and establish an identity.
15. ST. LOUIS CITY SC (+6) | 3-0 LA

St. Louis City finally scored a goal, three of them. Defensively, it is the only team in Major League Soccer not to have conceded this season. Roman Burki had one of his classic performances, akin to his 2023 MLS Goalkeeper of the Year run. He made eight saves, some of them astonishing. St. Louis did not necessarily dominate the game, but it was clinical in the finishing department and just held strong enough for a 3-0 clean sheet. Cedric Teuchert arrived on the scoresheet, while Marcel Hartel keeps on keeping on. Henry Kessler, Jannes Horn and Kyle Hiebert have been impeccable at the back.
16. SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES (-3) | 1-0 L MIN

The San Jose Earthquakes took their first loss of the Bruce Arena era at home against Minnesota. Daniel played an incredible game in goal, but it was just not enough. The attack went radio silent, as Chicho Arango and Josef Martinez could not muster many quality chances. Cristian Espinoza continues to be one of the best creators in the league, even from a different right wingback position this season. Rodrigues has also had a great start to 2025. San Jose will look to get back in the win column against Colorado.
17. SAN DIEGO FC (+7) | 3-1 W RSL

San Diego FC is now unbeaten in its first three games as a club. While it initially looked bad against Real Salt Lake, things turned on a dime. Andres Dreyer had a fabulous game and helped turn the tides in his side's favor. Striker Marcus Ingvartsen scored his first goal of the season in the effort. Jeppe Tverskov is looking like one of the best ball-winning midfielders in the league so far this campaign. SDFC has its first true test at home against Columbus.
18. HOUSTON DYNAMO (-) | 0-0 D CLB

Houston Dynamo held onto a draw with Columbus on the road, which is always an acceptable result. Andrew Tarbell had himself a great game in net, in an attempt to keep his job. Femi Awodesu was improved at center back, while Franco Escobar was taken off after just 29 minutes. Ezequiel Ponce may not be the answer for this team long-term at striker, but he deserves a little more time to prove himself. The Dynamo as a whole has not been an impressive unit thus far, but it's early.
19. AUSTIN FC (-4) | 1-0 L COL

Austin FC has played in three 1-0 matches to start the season. The latest was a home loss to Colorado. Mytro Uzuni made his first start and had a couple of prime opportunities to score. Brandon Vazquez was solid, but still has not scored, as this team has struggled to find goals. Ilie Sanchez was fantastic in midfield, and it was a good defensive effort overall. Austin just needs to get the three DPs on the scoresheet sooner rather than later.
20. LA GALAXY (-9) | 3-0 L STL

Ok, it might actually be time to panic. The ironic part is that the Galaxy played their best game of the season in the 3-0 loss to St. Louis. In losses to San Diego and Vancouver, they were hardly in the game, but they were actually the better team for many moments against St. Louis. Marco Reus played one of his best games in MLS thus far, creating five chances and almost scoring, if not for former teammate Roman Burki. LA attempted 23 shots and failed to hit the back of the net, putting the defending champs in the Wooden Spoon position.
21. CHICAGO FIRE (+5) | 3-1 W DAL

Chicago Fire is an extremely exciting team going forward. Brian Gutierrez is a serious talent, when he isn't crashing out and being naughty. If he can figure out how to control his emotions on the pitch, he has potential to be one of the top-producing attacking midfielders. Hugo Cuypers is finally playing how this team needs him to, while Jonathan Bamba has remained influential on the wing. Sam Rogers and Jack Elliott held up better in the back, and Chris Brady is playing as one of the top keepers in the league right now.
22. FC DALLAS (-6) | 3-1 L CHI

FC Dallas has had quite a strange transition into the Lucho Acosta attack. Despite Acosta and Petar Musa, it's not that ridiculous to say Logan Farrington has been the best player going forward for Dallas in the minutes he has been afforded. Farrington needs to play consistently, that attacking trio will undoubtedly bear fruits. Osaze Urhoghide is a phenomenal defender, this team has the pieces but just needs to find the right combinations and balances.
23. DC UNITED (+4) | 2-1 W SKC

DC United grabbed a win over Sporting Kansas City, with Christian Benteke at the forefront of scoring, per usual. Joao Peglow had a great debut, while the defense played much better. David Schnegg posted incredible numbers at left back, while Aaron Herrera is routinely great. DC is undefeated, but has also only earned five points against some of the bottom-tier teams in MLS. This team needs to play some quality tests before it can be accurately judged, and that will not be next week against Montreal either.
24. NASHVILLE SC (+4) | 2-0 W POR

Nashville SC somehow missed two penalties in the first 18 minutes of the win over Portland. Hany Mukhtar and Sam Surridge have been allergic to scoring goals, but it will surely come. Eddi Tagseth is seriously looking like a top-five offseason signing. Andy Najar has been a fabulous slot-in at right back. Ahmed Qasem is looking like the real deal on the wing and has the potential to completely change this team. Nashville visits MLS-leading Philadelphia next weekend.
25. REAL SALT LAKE (-6) | 3-1 L SD

Real Salt Lake opened the scoring against the newest expansion side through Ariath Piol, but it did not lost. Piol and Forster Ajago have done fairy well at the highly criticized striker position, but it still won't be enough. Diego Luna has not performed to his ability so far, though Diogo Goncalves has showed some improvement. RSL is just a mess in general right now, the defense is just not good enough, and the midfield of Emeka Eneli and Braian Ojeda must be better. Pablo Ruiz is the most important player for this squad.
26. PORTLAND TIMBERS (-4) | 2-0 L NSH

The Portland Timbers are absolutely lost at the moment, playing without some crucial pieces in the starting lineup. James Pantemis has done absolutely everything he can in net whislt filling in for Maxime Crepeau, but the Timbers have left him out to dry. Kevin Kelsy and David da Costa need to do more, but the reintegration of Santiago Moreno, and eventually Jonathan Rodriguez, will do them wonders. The 2-0 loss to Nashville was pure domination in the wrong direction.
27. NEW ENGLAND REVOLUTION (-4) | 2-0 L PHI

As strayed in the opening, the New England Revolution does not possess the ability to score a goal, at least in the net they are intended to do so. There was a tad more cohesion in the first half against Philadelphia, but all of that went missing as the game progressed. Jackson Yueill makes a negative pass with each breath he takes, and the team refuses to go forward. Leonardo Campana left the game after 10 minutes to add to the distress. Carles Gil is already having flashbacks to last season. Caleb Porter has to go, and he has to go now.
28. CF MONTREAL (-3) | 2-0 L VAN

CF Montreal is in trouble already through three games. Joel Waterman has been one of the most willing players to push the ball forward, and he is the club's central center back. Mahala Opoku seems to have left his quality in Los Angeles, and there really is not much else going on. Jonathan Sirois made a few great saves to keep his team in it, but Vancouver cruised to a shutout victory regardless. Montreal is relying on a whole lot of youth and not a whole lot of big-money signings, which is not a method for success in modern day MLS.
29. SPORTING KANSAS CITY (-) | 2-1 L DC

Sporting Kansas City is in for another rough year. That's now five losses from five games in 2025. Erik Thommy is good, but he cannot do it by himself. Dejan Joveljic was always going to be doomed in a side where he does not have the service to rely on. Manu Garcia is definitely a positive addition to this SKC side, but the lack of consistency in central defense puts the team in a rough spot.
30. TORONTO FC (-) | 2-0 L FCC

Toronto FC is just a bad soccer team, there's not too much else to say at this point that has not already been emphasized. Zane Monlouis seems like a decent pickup at least. Lorenzo Insigne is still taking up space on the roster, so it's likely that TFC will remain dead last for a long time. No other words, just best of luck to Toronto FC fans and their sanity.
