This week in MLS was a thrilling one, especially Sunday's incredible four-game slate. Every single team ranked No. 15-18 last week won their games this week, making for an interesting chaos in the middle of the league. A few teams are surging up the table and the rankings as MLS starts to get into full swing. Some of the hottest teams out of the gates have come to a screeching halt of bad form. The league is shaping up to be incredibly close down the stretch. The Eastern Conference is off to an unbelievable start, with so many teams picking up points in bulk. The Week 10 Power Rankings:
1. VANCOUVER WHITECAPS (+2) | 3-1 W MIN

The Vancouver Whitecaps are absolutely unreal. After trouncing Inter Miami in CCC, they benched the starters and started the likes of Jeevan Badwal and Giuseppe Bovalina. It doesn't matter who is on the pitch for this team right now, they are just unstoppable. The rotated team held onto the match against one of the better teams in the West in the first half. When midfield reinforcements Sebastian Berhalter and Pedro Vite entered the game, the duo scored three goals and left Minnesota with no answers. The Whitecaps are atop the Supporters' Shield standings and just have to avoid choking away a 2-0 lead in the second leg against Miami on Wednesday to advance to the CCC final. Life is good in Vancouver.
2. FC CINCINNATI (-) | 2-1 W SKC

Another week, another win, but the same story for FC Cincinnati. They aren't playing well enough to sustain this throughout the entire season, but it's getting the job done for now. Five straight wins have all been by a single goal and Cincy has hardly been the better team in many of those. In the 2-1 win over Sporting Kansas City, Miles Robinson and his defense looked solid, though Matt Miazga seemed a tad rusty. Luca Orellano is rounding back into form, which is a huge step forward for this team. Evander was held pretty quiet, but his presence alone is always dangerous. The main event, though, was Kevin Denkey and his moment of magic. His overhead kick completed a brace and put FCC on top of the Eastern Conference, but there's still necessary improvements to be made.
3. COLUMBUS CREW (+1) | 2-1 W SJ

Columbus Crew was far from convincing in their 2-1 victory over San Jose, but sometimes you just have to take your chances. Columbus managed two goals on just three shots on target, but a number of big chances went begging, namely from Diego Rossi. Max Arfsten has been immense this season and followed his success up with a beautiful strike. Daniel Gazdag has not fully settled into the team yet, but it will come with time. The Crew got the job done and move into second place in the East, making for an early Hell is Real race at the top of the conference.
4. INTER MIAMI CF (-3) | 4-3 L DAL

Inter Miami played an entirely rotated squad against FC Dallas, but there's no excuse for losing a game in which you hold a 3-1 lead in minute 64. Allen Obando opened his account and was lively at the striker spot, but most of the positives ended there. The backline, which did have some of the starting options for this side, was absolutely dreadful in the second half. Everything looked just fine in the opened hour of the match, but Miami folded and conceded three straight goals to take their first loss of the 2025 campaign. The loss came on the back of a 2-0 defeat against Vancouver in the CCC. Now, they will look to right the ship in the second leg at home on Wednesday.
5. PHILADELPHIA UNION (+2) | 3-0 W DC

The Philadelphia Union have posted back-to-back 3-0 victories after a rough little stretch of games. Jakob Glesnes reminded everyone of his permanent spot on Bangers Only FC, while the fellow unlikely scorer of Danley Jean Jacques scored for the second straight game. The danger of this Union team is just that, so many players are able to contribute to the attack. Tai Baribo leads the lead in goals, with seven in nine games, and has hardly made an impact since the first three games of the season. Bruno Damiani came into the game and grabbed the goal he has been searching for. Cavan Sullivan put in a 30-minute shift and will get more opportunities with Daniel Gazdag gone. Philly has been incredible offensively and have grabbed two straight clean sheets, so things are certainly looking up.
6. CHARLOTTE FC (-1) | 1-0 L NE

The impossible became possible when the New England Revolution completed a bank heist at Charlotte FC's fortress. The 5-0-0 undefeated home record was slashed by the 1-0 loss to the Revs. Wilfried Zaha was active in the game, and was also active on Snapchat postgame to voice his displeasure with select Charlotte FC fans blaming him for the loss. Pep Biel was held down from his recent form and The Crown were unable to find their footing in an extremely chippy game. The teams combined for 29 fouls. Complaints about the losing goal have run rampant in Charlotte circles, but there was no real evidence to support the claims, and Tim Ream jumping out of his shoes on the play should probably be the more concerning bit.
7. PORTLAND TIMBERS (+3) | 4-2 W LA

The Portland Timbers are scoring goals at will and have put together the best start in club history as a result. Kevin Kelsy, Santiago Moreno, David da Costa and Jonathan Rodriguez all scored in a road victory against LA Galaxy, truly a dream for any team. Every attacking player had an absolute field day, including the hat trick of assists dished out by Antony. The Timbers' 20 goals leads the league and has shot Portland into second place in the Western Conference. The leaky defense absolutely needs to be addressed, but the Timbers have also been one to push for goals and play exciting MLS after dark matches.
8. ORLANDO CITY SC (+3) | 3-0 W ATL

Orlando City finally snapped out of a strange rut, and the return of Eduard Atuesta is a direct reason why. Atuesta's line-breaking passes were missing during the snoozefest that was three consecutive draws previously. He returned to the side and dished out incredible balls that put his side in great positions to score goals. Alex Freeman continued his hot start, while Marco Pasalic found the back of the net and assisted another. The one question mark is the decision to bench star attacking midfield Martin Ojeda in favor of a struggling striker in Duncan McGuire, but it got the job done regardless in a 3-0 win over Atlanta.
9. COLORADO RAPIDS (-) | 1-1 D SEA

Djordje Mihailovic has staked his claim as one of the top MVP candidates in MLS up to this point. He has hardly played a bad game and has been at the forefront of everything good the Colorado Rapids have done. This time, it was a clever free kick under the wall along with a whopping six chances created. Cole Bassett played a fantastic game and Rafael Navarro got into some dangerous spots. The 1-1 draw with Seattle is not at all a bad result, but the Rapids will absolutely feel like they could have grabbed the victory at home.
10. MINNESOTA UNITED (-4) | 3-1 L VAN

There is some serious cause for concern when it comes to Minnesota United. This has been a dead team for three straight weeks, and something has to give. The attack is not fitting together as it once did at the start of the season. Joaquin Pereyra was connecting with Kelvin Yeboah and Robin Lod was a playmaker that helped Tani Oluwaseyi rack up goals. All of that has disappeared and Minnesota has lost their form. Wil Trapp has now scored two goals in the last four games, despite only scoring four goals in his MLS career since 2013 prior. Point being, the Loons need their attackers to wake up, because this could get ugly.
11. NASHVILLE SC (+7) | 7-2 W CHI

Nashville moves up one spot for each goal they spotted against Chicago Fire. Sam Surridge opened the scoring on yet another penalty 14 minutes in, but things got far more unbelievable when he scored the touchdown and tacked on the extra point early in the second half. Nashville got out to a wild 7-0 lead, led by Andy Najar's three assists, Sam Surridge's four goals and Hany Mukhtar's brace. Nashville was creating chances at will and put 12 of their 18 shots on target without much resistance. The Chicago Fire defense was left absolutely helpless, but a historic 7-0 win, which would have tied the largest defeat in league history, turned into a 7-2 result later on. This match showed what Nashville can do when everything is going right, but they need to improve at finding a breakthrough when it's not so easy.
12. SEATTLE SOUNDERS (-) | 1-1 D COL

The Seattle Sounders continued their resurgence with a 1-1 draw in Colorado, extending the unbeaten streak to three games. Danny Musovski has been absolutely massive on this run, scoring in each of the last three games. Jordan Morris is slowly returning to action, as he both subbed into and out of the game in the second half. Albert Rusnak and Alex Roldan also both came off the bench during the draw. There wasn't a whole lot else to speak of, besides the fact that Seattle should be just fine once the starting lineup is filled with their 11 best players. Jackson Ragen's injury still has some time left on it, so the Sounders will look to keep the gradual climb going as they get up to full strength.
13. AUSTIN FC (-5) | 2-0 L HOU

Austin FC might just be the strangest team in MLS so far this season. It's become very difficult to figure Austin out across the lsat month, but results have not been ideal. They have still only conceded 10 goals as a team, but the 2-0 loss to Houston Dynamo was a complete letdown. There wasn't a single individual performance to speak of, let alone the team as a whole. Austin completely faltered and created absolutely nothing in the loss. Brandon Vazquez missed the game, but no one stepped up in his absence. Austin is still clinging to the No. 3 spot in the West, but if the lack of attack continues, that will quickly change. ATX has scored seven goals, the second-least in MLS.
14. NEW ENGLAND REVOLUTION (+2) | 1-0 W CLT

The New England Revolution are genuinely a force to be reckoned with since Caleb Porter switched to the 5-3-2 formation. Winning three straight games in MLS is far from easy, let alone two tough Eastern Conference road trips, and statistically the hardest in Charlotte. Three straight clean sheets have been kept by Brayan Ceballos, Mamadou Fofana and a surprising Tanner Beason in front of Aljaz Ivacic. The 1-0 win over Charlotte was a gritty, chippy win that could have truly gone either way. But, the Revs freed up Carles Gil and allowed him to find the game winner, something he has become so accustomed to doing. New England rolled over a team that was previously 5-0-0 at home, and the schedule really only gets easier from here.
15. NEW YORK RED BULLS (-) | 1-0 W MTL

The New York Red Bulls put up another masterclass of killing the game and grinding out a result. Again, this team is the last place to look for entertainment, but they have mustered four wins in 10 matches this season. The 1-0 win over Montreal was a great defensive effort especially from goal scorer Noah Eile. Sean Nealis returned to the squad in style, while Omar Valencia and Kyle Duncan were solid at the fullback positions. This team completely lacks any semblance of pace, which is why Red Bulls games are truly so boring, but at the end of the day, a win is a win.
16. LAFC (-2) | 2-2 D STL

Just when it seemed like LAFC was starting to turn things around, they played a disgusting game against St. Louis City that can absolutely never end in a result other than a victory. Instead, it was LAFC chasing the game and stealing a miracle point from a 10-man STL side. Yes, Denis Bouanga is back in form with four goals across the last three games, including a brace in the 2-2 draw. The issue this season is that he has not been a clinical enough finisher. He took 10 shots, two of which were big chances missed, including a missed penalty. LAFC won the xG battle 3.71-1.41 and possessed the ball 70 percent of the time, yet it took a Bouanga solo mission to grab a point at 90+5'. The last two high-scoring draws have not been good enough and LAFC has to win these games if they want to rise in the West.
17. NYCFC (-) | 1-0 W TFC

Once again, Alonso Martinez was the entire attack in a tight 1-0 win over Toronto FC. He drew the penalty, and this time he drilled it into the back of the net on the only scoring play of the match. Tayvon Gray did well at right back in his return to the starting lineup, while Keaton Parks' return to the XI was quite welcomed. Hannes Wolf did more on the defensive side of things, winning four tackles, than he did in attack. Overall, it was far from inspiring, but three points on the road is always going to do.
18. FC DALLAS (+2) | 4-3 W MIA

FC Dallas may have not been playing against a first-choice Inter Miami, but they showed incredible fight in a 4-3 win. Despite taking an early lead through Shaq Moore and going down 3-1 afterwards, Eric Quill's side refused to give up. Even without Petar Musa, Dallas found three unanswered goals during the final half hour of the match. Somehow, Luciano Acosta was on the field for 90 minutes and did not contribute to any of the four goals, which is almost impossible. Osaze Urhoghide has entered conversations to be the best center back in MLS, and he scored the goal that got the comeback started. Anderson Julio tied things up and Pedrinho finished the job to earn a massive road win that will boost all kinds of spirits in the locker room.
19. SAN DIEGO FC (-6) | 3-1 L RSL

It took a few games, but Mikey Varas' side has been figured out. Their last three opponents have clearly done work in the film room, as San Diego has completed crumbled following a prosperous start out of the gates. They have conceded nine goals in the last three games, giving up three goals in each loss. The 3-1 loss to Real Salt Lake was the worst of all, considering it was at home and against the weakest opponent of the three. The lone goal for Hirving Lozano only came about thanks to a penalty kick call. It was all going so well, but Anders Dreyer's team has a whole lot of things to figure out if they want to stay relevant this season.
20. HOUSTON DYNAMO (+6) | 2-0 W ATX

Ondrej Lingr is exactly what the Houston Dynamo needed, and it has changed their entire season for the better. Lingr has played just 83 minutes so far, and has scored two goals in that short time, both game winners. Ezequiel Ponce even scored with a fantastic strike during the 2-0 win over Austin FC. Franco Escobar did his thing at left back, winning four tackles and tilting almost every 50/50 ball in his favor. Jonathan Bond secured his first clean sheet in net for the Dynamo. Houston is now four games unbeaten and is exuding all sorts of confidence at the moment.
21. REAL SALT LAKE (+7) | 3-1 W SD

Real Salt Lake picked up their best result of the season in a 3-1 victory over San Diego. Diego Luna came alive, as he seems to do only in select matches, while Sam Junqua scored an absolute stunner to cap things off. The late red card from Bode Hidalgo was not ideal, but RSL got the job done in a big way regardless. Emeka Eneli has continued to be absolutely incredible in the center of midfield. The 18-year-old Zavier Gozo got a look in his first start for the club. It was a great result for an RSL side that really needed a victory.
22. CHICAGO FIRE (-3) | 7-2 L NSH

The Chicago Fire should be ashamed of themselves. Conceding seven goals in the limited time span in which they did can never happen. It's been clear for some time that this defense is not good, but it looked especially bad in the 7-2 loss to Nashville SC. Brian Gutierrez only played one half in the loss. Chris Brady was abysmal in net, while horrific performances from Jack Elliott, Sam Rogers and Omari Glasgow followed. At least Hugo Cuypers got on the board, but Chicago are in some trouble if the defensive effort does not improve.
23. ST. LOUIS CITY SC (+1) | 2-2 D LAFC

St. Louis City shocked LAFC with a Cedric Teuchert opening goal. They proceeded to score an even more shocking goal in the form of a Nathan Ordaz own goal in the 89th minute to take a 2-1 lead. STL has struggled to score goals and get results, but everything was looking up as the clock waned. Denis Bouanga eventually punished them at the death, equalizing the game at two apiece. A 2-2 draw with LAFC isn't a bad result, but St. Louis had two separate leads and has zero wins in their last six games. Alfredo Morales' red card shook things up and opened the game up. This team needs a bit more from Marcel Hartel if they want to get things back going.
24. SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES (-2) | 2-1 L CLB

The San Jose Earthquakes played a very solid game in Columbus, it just was not quite enough to get a result. Former member of the system and former UC Davis star Max Arfsten punished the Quakes in the loss. Josef Martinez has proved he can still score goals, though, as his tally rose to six with a chip. Cristian Espinoza continues to create chances to no avail for the Earthquakes. Bruce Arena's side is tied for the most goals in the league, but the teams they are tied with are up near the top of the standings, and San Jose can be found down at the other end. It might be time to change things up structurally.
25. ATLANTA UNITED (-4) | 3-0 L ORL

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result. Ronny Deila might be insane, and Atlanta United fans are definitely going insane as a result. Deila is so stubborn and refuses to put Miguel Almiron at the No. 10 position with Alexey Miranchuk as more of a box-to-box midfielder, which has proven to work better. The 3-0 loss to Orlando was just more of the same, especially with Emmanuel Latte Lath out suspended. There just doesn't seem to be a whole lot of fight in this team, and the new crop of midfielders for this season have not done their job to the standard necessary. Atlanta has the roster to turn things around, but there's currently no signs that they will.
26. TORONTO FC (-3) | 1-0 L NYC

After a nice little run, Toronto FC lost 1-0 to NYCFC at home and showed absolutely nothing. TFC failed to record a single shot on target. Lorenzo Insigne was benched in favor of Charlie Sharp and Maxime Dominguez, but no improvements came about. Deybi Flores is still playing well and has been for a stretch of games now. Otherwise, Toronto FC just does not have much to be excited about and there isn't going to be a great deal of success until this roster has a complete revamp.
27. SPORTING KANSAS CITY (-2) | 2-1 L FCC

Sporting Kansas City was the better team for many parts of the 2-1 loss against FC Cincinnati, but Kevin Denkey just popped up in two spots to score. Somehow, the Khiry Shelton at right back experiment has still not been completed. Manu Garcia showcased his pure ability, completing six dribbles and creating three chances. He was a huge part of SKC's possession play during the match and he had his team looking dangerous for much of the match. Dejan Joveljic was active but unable to get on the scoresheet. Erik Thommy is probably way too good of a player to leave on the bench, he assisted fellow sub Zorhan Bassong near the end of the match.
28. DC UNITED (-1) | 3-0 L PHI

DC United followed up a great win with a very expected loss, considering their two attackers in Christian Benteke and Joao Peglow both missed the game. Aaron Herrera did what he could as a creator, but there was no one to create for. They fell 3-0 to Philadelphia Union after a rough contest. When center back Lucas MacNaughton is consistently your most dangerous player around the goal throughout a match, odds are you're going to lose that game.
29. CF MONTREAL (-) | 1-0 L RBNY

CF Montreal have scored a league-worst four goals and have yet to record a win in the table through 10 games. They have managed just three points so far and there's no end of the pain in sight. In a 1-0 loss to the New York Red Bulls, they did not create a single big chance. George Campbell has been consistently good at center back, but there is nothing going forward and lone DP Giacomo Vrioni continues to miss action with a mystery injury. Sebastian Breza made five good saves in net, but it wasn't enough to grab a result on the road.
30. LA GALAXY (-) | 4-2 L POR

LA Galaxy has too many good players for this to last an entire year. The issue is that this team does not start to look like itself until they're desperately pushing for a goal. Joseph Paintsil came alive when the Galaxy went down 3-0 to Portland, but it was too little too late. Gabriel Pec has been largely useless, which is a shocking development. Christian Ramirez has been a massive goal scorer for this team and has provided some of the few good moments this year. Marco Reus scored his first goal of the season and looked solid off the bench, which would be a massive help for this team if that can continue. The Galaxy lost 4-2, but there have been some sparks of hope in the reigning champions, who have zero wins and 20 goals conceded.
